Back in April, HTC unveiled Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 smartphones with fanfare. Now, HTC is reportedly planning to refresh Touch HD that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and was launched last year. This model would be refreshed to Touch HD 2 and would be running Google’s Android OS. HTC already has G1, Magic and the recently announced Hero smartphone models running Android OS.
Well, it does mean that HTC is slowly moving towards Android adoption and quietly loosening grip on Windows Mobile OS.
As Register Hardware reported, sources informed that the HTC Touch HD 2 would be faster than the original model and will have 628MHz Qualcomm chip. At the moment, most high-end HTC models come with 528MHz Qualcomm chip. We reviewed HTC Touch HD in our labs and found it slow as well as unresponsive in some cases.
No other changes that would make Touch HD 2 stand out have been revealed but ya, the phone will have same 3.8-inch touchscreen. We doubt this would be any cheaper than the Windows Mobile OS based Touch HD. Nevertheless, speed bump along with memory (ROM and RAM) boost would totally be a win-win situation for the consumers.
