Google Earth Mobile app now out for the Nexus One ‘Android 2.1′
Feb 25th
Michael Kwan
There is a new app to add in the already intensive library of Google code for your Android phone. You can use it for everything from Gmail to Google Maps, and now you get to have a global view too thanks to the new Google Earth Mobile app for Android.
Developed to work with Android 2.1, the “fastest mobile version of Google Earth” is now available for download through the Google Marketplace. The Android edition of Google Earth will support a screen resolution of up to 800×480 pixels and a “smooth” frame rate.
Inside the app, you’ll find a roads layer that can be placed over top the digital satellite image. There’s also voice recognition to help you find your points of interest, whether they be specific locations or more general search terms. You can still browse through local businesses too.
The good news is that the new Google Earth app for Android is perfectly happy working on the Nexus One. The bad news is that it is not yet ready for theMotorola Droid, so you’ll have to wait for Moto to roll out Android 2.1 update for that phone first.

Details about HTC Hero of realeasing it
Jun 11th
HTC is set to release another Android-based smartphone called the HTC Hero in London on the 24th of June and could become the third phone build around Google’s mobile platform on the market.
According to Digitimes, the HTC Hero will be available in two versions; one with a QWERTY keyboard – Memphis and another without – Lancaster. It is also understood that AT&T will get a 6-month exclusivity period for the HTC Lancaster in the US.
Like most recent HTC smartphones, the Hero will feature HTC’s own proprietary 3D user interface, the TouchFLO. Google has already said that it expects up to around 20 Android handsets to be released by the end of the year – that’s just under 7 months from now.
There are already 10 handset manufacturers which have enrolled in the Open Handset Alliance with Acer being the latest. But only a few of them have said that they will be releasing Android devices fairly soon.
HTC is already building up the momentum after it issued invitations to a mysterious HTC press event to be hold – yes on the 24th of June – coupled with a few leaked videos.

HTC Hero Android phone coming June 24?
Jun 11th
This truly is turning into the Summer of Smartphones. The Palm Pre, of course, has already debuted to mostly positive reviews, and seemingly endless clues point to a next-gen iPhone launch in the very near future.
Now there’s word that mobile handset giant HTC, maker of the popular Android-based T-Mobile G1, will launch another Android phone, the HTC Hero, on June 24 in London. The report from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) states the Hero will come in two configurations, one with a QWERTY keyboard and one without. The keyboard model will be named the HTC Memphis or HTC Lancaster, and will be sold exclusively by AT&T Wireless for six months starting in the third quarter, EDN states.
In addition to running Android (Google’s up-and-coming mobile operating system that’s likely to cross over to netbooks soon), the Hero will feature HTC’s own TouchFLO 3D user interface. If you want to see TouchFLO 3D in action, check out the HTC Touch Diamond2 or HTC Touch Pro2, two iPhone rivals that run Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS.
Reports from the UK indicate HTC is planning a bash for June 24, and that it’s notifying journalists to “save the date” for a big launch event.
It’s no secret that HTC has big plans for Android. Earlier this year it announced plans to ship at least three Android smartphones in 2009, including the HTC Magic, a slick handset that debuted at February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The upcoming T-Mobile G2, slated to ship in July, will be very similar to the HTC Magic, according to various reports.
HTC must be wondering if it has timed its Hero bash just right. Will the press and public still be swooning over the Palm Pre and new iPhone?number of view: 76

This phone is probably for HTC Magic.
One thing I like about Android… first time setup. Watch Android team members talk about their favorite features.

Multiple Android Phones Expected In 2009
Jun 8th
Handsets with various form factors will hit the market in 2009, and the emergence of Android could be especially bad for Windows Mobile, Palm, and Symbian.
Fans of the Android operating system may want to wait for next year to take the plunge, as it appears there will be a plethora of smartphones that use Google’s open source operating system.
T-Mobile’s G1 is the only commercially available Android-powered smartphone, but the handset’s design has been hit or miss with many critics and customers. The next year should further the Open Handset Alliance’s goal of spreading Android to multiple handsets with various form factors.
Samsung is reportedly readying a touch-screen Android phone that could have a similar form factor as the company’s Instinct or Behold smartphones. These devices would require Android’s virtual keyboard, which is on track for the first quarter of 2009. Samsung executives told ETnews the company has sped up its Android development, and a handset is expected for Sprint and T-Mobile in the second quarter of 2009.
Motorola is also betting big on Android, having ditched other operating systems to focus on Google’s OS for all of its midtier handsets. Very few details have emerged on Motorola’s Android phones, but the first handset is reportedly going to have strong integration with social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.

Sony Ericsson recently joined the Open Handset Alliance, and its Android handsets are still in the prototype phase. The company is well-known for its design of midlevel handsets, and an Android-powered phone should hit in the middle of next year.
While it’s not very surprising that cell phone manufacturers are looking at Android, the wildcard could be other consumer electronics makers like Garmin. The company is known for making personal navigation units, but it confirmed that it does have an Android-powered phone in development.
The multiple handsets should be a boon for developers, who will see a larger potential audience for their products in the Android Market. But the multiple form factors could lead to concerns. Compatibility should not be a problem, but the navigation, user experience, and overall appeal of individual apps could fluctuate between devices.
With so many Android handsets, the smartphone battle will become increasingly fierce. Because Android has few enterprise features, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry base should be largely unaffected. Google’s OS may siphon users from Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, and it may appeal to the “fat middle” of the market that Palm is going after with its Nova platform.
Symbian continues to dominate the market with about a 50% global footprint, but it has a miniscule share of the U.S. market. Many expect the upcoming open source Symbian to make a strong play for the U.S. market, but handsets aren’t expected to be available until 2010. Android may be able to gain a foothold in the U.S. market and keep Symbian at bay.number of view: 82
10 HTC phones to be released in 2009, so how many Android?
Jun 8th
HTC had an amazing 2008 – no doubt. Not only did they increase quarter to quarter revenue by 20%, with nearly $50 billion bucks streaming in, but they also set a new bar for mobile hotness. Everywhere you turned, people were wishing this, that and the other looked more like one of HTC’s new Touch devices.
You know… Touch HD, Touch Pro, Touch 3G, Touch Diamond…
In fact, when the HTC created T-Mobile G1 was launched, many people were wishing it looked like one of HTC’s other devices. Chances are they won’t have to wish much longer.
According to DigiTimes, HTC is set to release 10 new handsets in 2009. ALL of these devices will be based on either Windows Mobile or Android. That means there is a pretty darn good chance that HTC alone launches 2 or 3 new Android devices in 2009.
That number is just a guess, of course. Your guess is as good as mine. So what do you think? How many Android Phones will HTC release in 2009?number of view: 96
